Kira Bailey
I grew up on our family farm. My childhood was spent with many animals: horses, cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, rabbits, as well as dogs, cats, a white pigeon, 2 parakeets and I also raised a couple of pigs.
While my girlfriends were sewing, cooking and shopping I was in the fields much of the time with my grandfather working in the hay with the horses, helping with the other animals, or with my mother in our huge vegetable garden, sometimes chasing ducks and chickens out of it!
I was about 7 when I started drawing. Some of my sketches of ducks and chickens were really funny.
After High School I spent four years in Art School and another two years of additional art study at night. At this same time I was doing free-lance art as well as a few months in the advertising department of a large department store. During that time I created a variety of different types of advertising art from newspaper adds to in house display cards and a bit of fashion, but I always came back to the animal drawings that I most enjoyed. Some years later, I also did illustrations for an international organization’s magazine.
On the Gallery page of the web site are a few representations of my current work. They are rendered on high quality smooth or textured paper in Prismacolor pencil, acrylic, pastel and other media to achieve the desired effect with each unique drawing.
